ABOUT GIRL SCOUTS

Girl Scouting is for every girl, everywhere—where today’s girls can become tomorrow’s leaders. Membership in Girl Scouts is open to girls in grades K – 12; women and men over 18 can join as adult members.

Most girls join a local troop or group for fun and friendship, but they also find out about building character and self-esteem and serving their communities—the core qualities of Girl Scouting. In Girl Scouts, girls find a safe place to grow and share new experiences, learn to relate to others, develop values, and contribute to society.

ABOUT THE GOLD AWARD

The Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest and most prestigious award that Girl Scout Seniors and Ambassadors can earn. Fulfilling the requirements for the Girl Scout Gold Award starts with completing two Girl Scout Senior or Ambassador journeys or having earned the Silver Award and completing one Senior or Ambassador journey. Each journey you complete gives you the skills you need to plan and implement your Take Action project.

After you have fulfilled the journey(s) requirement, 80 hours is the suggested minimum hours for the steps: identifying an issue, investigating it thoroughly, getting help and building a team, creating a plan, presenting your plan, gathering feedback, taking action, and educating and inspiring others. The suggested minimum hours are not a rule; they are a guide for you to plan your time in achieving your goal.

ABOUT MY GIRL SCOUT GOLD AWARD

For My Girl Scout Gold Award, I am Creating a Dog Park in Bonner Springs, Kansas. This will give Dogs and their owners a SAFE place to exercise. I am Working with Skip Dobbs with Bonner Springs Park and Recreation to Complete the project. I am looking at constructing the dog park at Lions Park. This Project will cost around $10,000 to $15,000 to construct. I will be taking donations, and doing fundraisers. My Inspiration for my project was my little brother Jacob and My Grandma Myra. My little brother is special needs and they were talking about getting a Service dog for him and he looked at me and was like “When I come down to your house I want to take my doggy for a walk” and right then my mind decided. I will construct a dog park in Bonner Springs. My Grandma always taught me if I want something to happen I have to take the first steps. I contacted Parks and Rec. and now the Journey has started.

ABOUT ME

My Name is Jenna H. I am 16 years old, and in the 11th grade. I live with my Grandmother, and enjoy it. I like to dance, cheer and do gymnastics. When I grow up I want to be a veterinarian and run my own Dog Rescue. I currently have 3 dogs Tucker, Sam, and Max. Tucker is a Yorkie and is all mine. I helped rescue him from a Kill Shelter as a 10 week old pup. He had a Broken leg from a previous owner abusing him. I earned money to pay all his vet bills, and get him neutered, and microchip. He is my everything. I am very involved in the community. I have hosted 2 Spay/Neuter events and 2 Leadership activities for 4th and 5th grade girls.
